The Architecture Foundation of Oregon (AFO) educates and inspires Oregonians of all ages and backgrounds to engage in the design of our built environment. AFO Scholarships support future design and building professionals and encourage people from diverse backgrounds to participate in the process of designing and building our world.
2025 AFO Scholarships:
AFO awards and administers six scholarships for students who are studying design and building professions in Oregon.
Hatfield Architectural Award: $5,000 scholarship for undergraduate and graduate architecture students attending University of Oregon or Portland State University who express commitment to community service. Learn more.
William Hart Scholarship: $5,000 scholarship for Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) Master and Bachelor of Architecture students entering their last year at University of Oregon or Portland State University (graduating in 2026). Learn more.
Tsagaglalal (She Who Watches) Scholarship: Renewable $10,000 scholarship for non-graduating Indigenous students of U.S. states and territories, pursuing a degree in art or architecture at Portland State University. Learn more.
Hermann Colas, Jr. Legacy Scholarship: $5,000 scholarship for Black and Latin(x) undergraduate students pursuing a 4-year degree in construction management, engineering, or architecture at an Oregon college or university. Learn more.
PAE Diversity in Engineering Scholarship: $5,000 scholarship for undergraduate students marginalized by ethnicity and/or gender, pursuing engineering with a passion for climate justice at an accredited 4-year university in the United States. Learn more.
PCC Architecture + Interior Design Scholarship: $5,000 scholarship for first-generation students enrolled in Portland Community College's Architectural Design and Drafting or Interior Design degree program. Apply here.
Scholarship recipients are expected to attend the AFO Scholars Reception in Spring of 2025 where they will be presented with their awards. The event is attended by members of the architecture, engineering, construction, and design community from across the state and celebrates the hard work and accomplishments of the scholars. The recipients will be part of a diverse and engaged community of scholars who now make up some of the most dynamic leaders in the industry.
Form Directions:
Please submit this form to be considered for the Hatfield Architectural Award, the William Hart Scholarship, the Tsagaglalal (She Who Watches) Scholarship, the Hermann Colas, Jr. Legacy Scholarship, and/or the PAE Diversity in Engineering Scholarship. You are welcome to apply for as many AFO scholarships you are eligible for. If you plan to apply for more than one AFO scholarship, please do so in a single application submission, do not submit separate applications for each scholarship. You are also welcome to apply for a single scholarship.

Scholarship Workshops & Resources
Visit our website or register here to sign up for a workshop and access resources. During these workshops we cover eligibility, the application process, and how to prepare a successful application. Attendees will receive tips and feedback on scholarship essays, portfolios/work samples, and more. Workshops are free and open to eligible scholarship candidates.
